Wax aftercare
48 hours to smooth + clear
Waxing aftercare is short + simple: lukewarm-only for the first 48 hours, no sweat, exfoliate from day 3 to prevent ingrowns. Three phases cover every body area (brazilian, legs, brows, lip, underarm).
0–24 hours
Cool + dry
Pores are open + skin is sensitive. Heat, sweat, and friction in this window are the main causes of post-wax reactions.
Do
- Wear loose breathable fabric
- Sip cool water; skip the hot drinks
- Apply an aloe-based cooling gel if irritation flares
Skip
- Hot shower, sauna, hot tub, steam room
- Workout, run, or anything that makes you sweat
- Tight clothing (skinny jeans, compression leggings, lycra)
- Self-tanner / spray tan on the same skin
24–48 hours
Light activity OK
Pores are settling. Most activity is fine; reserve full-intensity workouts + hot bathing for after the 48h mark.
Do
- Lukewarm shower with gentle cleanser
- Light walking or stretching
- Light moisturizer (fragrance-free)
Skip
- Hot tub, hot shower, sauna
- Aggressive exfoliation
- Retinoids / AHAs on the waxed area
Day 3 onward
Exfoliate to prevent ingrowns
Starting day 3, gentle exfoliation 2-3x a week keeps pores clear + hair growing straight out. This is the difference between smooth weeks and an ingrown-bump farm.
Do
- Exfoliating glove or konjac sponge in the shower 2-3x/week
- KP-targeted lotion (lactic + salicylic + glycolic) daily
- Loose breathable underwear; cotton sleepwear
Skip
- Pick or pluck ingrowns
- Shave between waxes (defeats the purpose; re-trains the hair cycle)
- Use a body brush on freshly-irritated skin
FAQ
Common questions
- When can I shower after waxing?
- Wait at least 24 hours before a hot shower. Lukewarm-only for the first 48 hours. Hot water on freshly waxed skin can irritate pores + cause ingrown hairs.
- Can I work out after waxing?
- Avoid heavy sweating for 24-48 hours, especially after a brazilian or underarm wax. Sweat + friction on freshly waxed skin is the #1 cause of folliculitis (red bumps that look like acne).
- How long does waxing last?
- 3-6 weeks depending on hair growth cycle + body area. Underarms + bikini regrow faster (~3-4 weeks); legs + brows slower (4-6 weeks). After 3-4 consistent waxes, hair grows back finer + sparser.
- What about ingrown hairs?
- Exfoliate 2-3x a week starting 48 hours after waxing. A KP-targeted exfoliating cream (glycolic + lactic + salicylic) on the waxed area prevents 80%+ of ingrowns. Never pick or pluck ingrowns: let them surface naturally + exfoliate.
